401K plan

I want to know more about my 401K plan.
1.) How much money is a good idea to put in this plan?
2.) How do I choose my portfolio?
3.) What trading do I need to do with my portfolio - exchange-ins or exchange outs?

Could some one please throw some light!

Pavan,

I think you need to talk to a Personal Financial Planner. I work as a Trading-Operations guy in a brokerage firm and I think IT guys like you (who tend to earn more than the average american), should not waste your time putting all money into CDs but you should hire a Financial Planner to help you out with your retirement and investment plans. S/he will help you remain diversified, according to your investing styles/preferences. You ought to consider putting money into ETFs, Mutual Funds, Large Cap and some Small Cap stocks too. Talk to someone in your area (Bay area, I'm assuming) who has a CFP designation. Hope this helps.
